The ORT Šiauliai branchThe ORT Šiauliai branch was one of the more active branches in Lithuania. In September 1921 a joiners’ workshop and dressmaker’s workshop were opened in Šiauliai. From 1932 there was a three-month course for tailors and dressmakers. That year it was attended by 18 people. The courses were financed by the central ORT special fund, then by the Red Cross; later it was taken over by the education people’s commissariat. Leizeris Jeruzalimskis headed the course. At the same time he also worked as a teacher at a Jewish gymnasium in Šiauliai. In 1929 Jeruzalimskis graduated from the faculty of humanities of the University of Lithuania. While still a student at the university, in 1923, he taught Yiddish, geography and natural sciences at ORT Kaunas vocational school.
